The lecture course has many different goals that focus on helping each student succeed in the profession that have chosen or plan on choosing. One of the primary objectives is to improve the students writing skills because language is a basic tool for communication, which makes it an essential skill for mass communication. This lecture course also teaches students how to build media literacy and how to take the core values of their chosen profession seriously. These core values are very important because many times they can be seen in the work that each student does. Another important aspect of the lecture course is that it can help students who do not yet know where they are most skilled define which area of JMC they would like to major in.
The Lab course is also very important in JMC 2033. In the lab, students will begin to work on basic writing skills. Students will learn specific writing processes in lecture, and then apply them in the lab. The lab will be very helpful because it will help prepare students in the area of deadlines. These deadlines will give students enough time to write multiple drafts and then turn in the best work possible for their final draft. The lab instructor will be there to assist or coach the students whenever they need help. Also in the lab, Students will work on various projects, such as slide show presentations and video scripts. It should be noted that JMC 2033 is not an easy course and requires a lot of hard work. A student must acheive a C average or higher in order to move forward in JMC.
